Juan, the owner, is super helpful and has great restaurant recommendations. But there’s more to Alaska than friendly Juan. It’s cheap; the rooms are colourful, large and utterly charming. Besides, the location is a killer: close to Sol metro and all the action. Rooms come with a TV, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi and private bathrooms (tiny). Most rooms have balconies. There’s no breakfast but you’re surrounded by eating places. Bonus: There’s a fridge and washing machine for guest use. Alaska is a great little option.

All rooms come with a TV, fan, telephone and private bathrooms with bathtubs. Internet is free. No breakfast. Food tip: For some of the best tapas bars in Madrid, head to Cava Baja nearby.
